This is still bad rep for ANet.
its fine. they reinstated it once they got our account information (though fenix was supposed to give it to them in the original message).

only thing i can hope for is that anet gets an easier in game way to send in reports instead of having to navigate the guildwars site.

i doubt we'll hear details. otherwise it just opens up for people to try to work around it.

Yes, they did a great job correcting their mistake, which is admirable. Everybody makes mistakes, and anyone who spots the problem fast and fixes it deserves a lot of credit.

But a mistake was still made. Pretending otherwise doesn't really help anyone.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the people who fix the problems and the people who cause the problems are not the same. I've seen a lot of issues crop up here on the boards result in immediate and effective action. But traditional avenues of support have been and remain a mess.

and how were they to communicate goldplated red one?

without any way to identify the sweep program these are the good guys how do you expect Anet to exclude them?

Insisting on blaming Anet for a mistake they couldn't possibly not make doesn't help either.

Kudos to Anet for acting so swiftly and thoroughly.

That some of you aren't willing to listen to reason and logic is yet another weep for the state of humanity.

I'm astounded Anet took steps to righting the exploit within 24 hours of notice. Gaile has given you the reasoning of their steps, it makes sense.

Ah, well, please keep in mind that quite a few on this site are not even of voting age. Wisdom comes with the years, I'm 43 so I should know, right

I don't mind serving innocently in jail for 1 day to save the world as opposed to staying out of jail and watching the world fall apart around me.... but that's just my opinion.

If I didn't care... I would've just sit by and not do anything.

Anet did what they had to do, the alternative of idling by while the world collapse would be far worse.

I have no clue whatsoever about the way the game works, but does each item have it's own id, or does each type of item have a certain id (ie Ectos id is x, Red Dye id is n, Ambrace id is a etc etc)? If it's the former, wouldn't you create two items with identical ids? Wouldn't that be fairly easy to track down?

I think that if Anet is using some kind of filter, they must figure there are more exploiters than helpers. It's easier to go one by one unbanning helpers, than to go one by one banning exploiters.

Now I heard that Enko's account is banned. Fenix is offline, probably asleep.

This is a shame. I would ask ANet's Support to take a bit more care when doing things like this and check again if he really did something else than duping a red dye.

Of course I understand that the people who reported this bug might become suspicious, too, for good reason. But I rather fear this is a knee-jerk reaction that they do not deserve. Some of the exploiters might laugh their ass off when they read this.

Save Enko and Fenix, they probably got sorted out with the bad apples.
Sorry if I missed something, after reading the stupidity of the original post and the ones coming after word, I couldn't stomach reading through a couple more pages, but look at what I bolded. They heard of an exploit and the screwed around until they figured out how. Period. I know they did it to "help" ANET, but if they were able to figure it out based on the posts here on guru, I think it is safe to say ANET new how it was being done and was working on fixing it. They didn't have to do it themselves, and if they really did get banned for it, they deserved it.

Some time after turning 50, Confucius said he wished he had 50 more years because he didn't really get it until he was 50. I know what he means.

I don't know that I agree that wisdom always comes with years. As a volunteer parent in my daughter's elementary school, I led a reading program that was designed to encourage reflective thinking. I took the 6th graders for myself, and I went into the group feeling smug as the "wise" adult who would laboriously guide their unformed "little" minds through the process of reflective thinking. In the second session when they came back having read the short story I'd assigned, one young woman in the class gave her interpretation of the underlying theme of the story, and I dropped my jaw on the floor in amazement. It was spot on. It was brilliant. It was beyond anything I'd contemplated. She was 12 years old. That was a humbling experience I will never forget, and although I'm tempted sometimes, that was the last day I really induldged in adultism... except for those times when I act immature, of course.

There are some very bright minds on this forum, and, to be honest, I often cannot tell who's the parent and who's the child in these posts. Sometimes I think it's hormone-induced teenage angst I'm reading, and other times I suspect it's someone well of out his/her teens driven by anger that he/she can't really define. It may be folly that drives some people to find fault as easily as some of the people here do, but it's not always youthful folly.

There are VERY intelligent people posting here that are still showing very immature sides as well, not mentioning names but I'm sure people can think of a few.

The initial posts in this thread really shows how little insight people have in how things work in the real world.

Are you full quid?

If ANet knew how it was being done, they would have done something a long while ago. They would have removed reconnects a long while ago. They would have banned accounts a long while ago. ANet acted extremely quickly in banning accounts/removing reconnects; this would have happened ages ago if they knew how people were abusing the system.

Don't say stupid shit.

Oh btw, I'm at school atm, and its 9:55am, and knowing Fenix, he's probably still in bed.

Cool that they are gettign the accounts back, and as has been said in the initial sweep it was inevitable that those helping would be banned, with the right appeal they have got back their accounts.

Obviously its not ideal to ban those helping Anet. However if this was a dictaorship they would probably have been shot by now with no recourse to appeal.

Well great to know atleast 2 people got their account back.
Me and my cousin are still as good as banned due to this behemoth sized bug, I'm gonna call it a bug cause that's what it is.

Sent in a ticket, still waiting for an answer. Should tell my cousin to do the same in hopes of getting him back in the game (seeing as he spent over 8000 hours on his account, compared to my mere 700 hours over 24 months.)

Also, this is very bad timing for Anet seeing GW:EN is coming out in a few weeks. If this drags on for too long, they'll be faced with pretty bad publicity.

"Thousands of innocent players banned due to a bug"?

I think we are all very fortunate that Enko and Fenix succeeded in pinpointing the problem and reported their findings, and I am confident that Anet regrets that the two were affected by the swift action to get the problem under control. As the accounts of Enko and Fenix have been restored, I closed this thread.
